Ripley Castle has been home to the Ingilby family for over 750 years.
As a resident of The Boar’s Head, you receive complimentary access into the Castle Gardens & Grounds for the duration of your visit.
Within the Ripley Castle gardens are the large Victorian walled garden with floral and shrub borders.
Visitors can enjoy a woodland walk or walk around the beautiful Lake through the ancient deer park and take in the Castle views.
There are fascinating stories to be told about the Castle and its inhabitants. Having belonged to the same family for 26 generations, Ripley’s colourful and sometimes gruesome history is well documented. If the Castle walls could talk they would tell the story of kings and queens; civil war and plagues; secrets concealed behind the Knight’s Chamber panelling; the swashbuckling daughter who held Oliver Cromwell at gunpoint in the library, and numerous clandestine affairs.
You will also find Ripley Castle Tearoom and GrindHus Coffee Shop which means you are never too far from a welcome drink and slice of cake.
The Castle Gardens & Grounds are open from 10am daily, last entrance at 3pm however may be closed on occasion for private functions. Please call 01423 771888 for further information.
